Velvety Red Churros (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Churros

01 - 2 teaspoons cocoa, unsweetened
02 - 1 large egg, at room temp
03 - ¼ cup brown sugar
04 - 1 cup water
05 - ⅓ cup butter, low-fat
06 - ½ teaspoon salt
07 - 1 cup plain flour
08 - 2 tablespoons olive oil
09 - 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
10 - 2 teaspoons red food dye or 1 tablespoon beet juice

→ Coating

11 - ¼ cup superfine sugar

→ Serving

12 - Melted Nutella or chocolate for dipping

# Instructions:

01 - Turn on oven to 390°F. Cover a tray with parchment paper.
02 - Stir together cocoa and flour until blended.
03 - Heat olive oil and butter together. Mix in sugar, food coloring, water, and salt. Let it come to a boil for 5 minutes. Stir in the flour mixture.
04 - Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes to cool down. Add an egg and vanilla, then beat until smooth.
05 - Pipe out 4-inch strips onto the tray. Bake 10 minutes at 390°F, then lower to 350°F for another 7-10 minutes.
06 - Roll warm churros in superfine sugar. Pair them with chocolate dip and enjoy!

# Notes:

01 - Use a sturdy piping bag or a cookie press.
02 - Swap food dye for beet juice if you prefer.
