Place the rack 6 inches below the broiler and set the oven to broil.

In an oven-ready skillet, cook beef, onion, sugar, and seasonings until there's no pink left. Optional: drain excess fat.

Mix ketchup, mustard, and beef broth into the skillet. Stir in a cornstarch-water solution, letting it thicken.

Take skillet off heat and stir in 1 cup of cheddar until it melts. Sprinkle leftover cheese on top.
