Warm the oven up to 375°F (190°C) and cover a baking tray with parchment paper.

Use a knife or heart-shaped cutter to carve out heart shapes from the room-temp puff pastry.

Lay the hearts on the baking tray and chill them in the fridge for 10 minutes to keep them firm.

Smear roughly 1 tablespoon of Nutella in the middle of half the hearts. Keep the edges clean.

Place a plain pastry heart over each Nutella one. Press around the sides to close them up, and crimp with a fork if you'd like.

Combine the egg with water, then use a pastry brush to coat the top of the pastries lightly.

Bake for 15–18 minutes until the pastries are golden and puffed up. Let them cool a bit before eating.

Sprinkle with powdered sugar and add whipped cream or fresh berries for extra flair, if you want.
