Warm Apple Dessert (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
02 - 1/2 cup light brown sugar (for filling)
03 - 3 large apples, peeled and chopped into half-inch chunks
04 - 1/4 teaspoon salt
05 - 1 pound brioche or challah bread, cubed into 1-inch pieces
06 - 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (for filling)
07 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

→ Custard

08 - 2 1/2 cups whole milk
09 - 4 large eggs
10 - 1/2 cup white sugar

→ Bourbon Sauce

11 - 1/4 cup heavy cream
12 - 3 tablespoons bourbon
13 - 1/2 cup unsalted butter
14 - 1 cup light brown sugar

# Instructions:

01 - Preheat oven to 350°F. Lay out the bread cubes on a baking sheet and toast them for 10 minutes or until slightly golden.
02 - In a pan, soften the apples with butter, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt for around 5 minutes.
03 - Mix the eggs, milk, and sugar in a bowl until it’s smooth.
04 - In a greased 9x13 pan, layer the toasted bread cubes with the apple mixture. Pour the custard over everything and let it soak for 15 minutes.
05 - Bake for about 40 minutes, or until the center is set and a knife inserted comes out clean.
06 - Melt butter and brown sugar in a saucepan. Add heavy cream, stir for 2 minutes, then add bourbon and simmer briefly.

# Notes:

01 - If your bread is stale, you can skip toasting it.
02 - Store the sauce and pudding in separate containers.
03 - You can prepare this in advance and warm it up later.
