Preheat oven to 350°F. Lay out the bread cubes on a baking sheet and toast them for 10 minutes or until slightly golden.

In a pan, soften the apples with butter, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt for around 5 minutes.

Mix the eggs, milk, and sugar in a bowl until it’s smooth.

In a greased 9x13 pan, layer the toasted bread cubes with the apple mixture. Pour the custard over everything and let it soak for 15 minutes.

Bake for about 40 minutes, or until the center is set and a knife inserted comes out clean.

Melt butter and brown sugar in a saucepan. Add heavy cream, stir for 2 minutes, then add bourbon and simmer briefly.
